About Me
Posted on January 27, 2007 by Marek
My name is Marek and I am 33 old years (and if I will forget to change my age next year just remember that I was born in 1976). I live in Polish capital city – Warsaw (ok, from some time I live about 1 km from Warsaw
). As you probably already noticed I am not English native speaker, so please don’t expect no mistakes here (or try to learn Polish and read my Polish blog). I always wanted to run my own English blog and finaly I decided to do it without wondering if I should use Present Perfect or Past Perfect
I am almost sure that most of you can understand my articles. If not try to use Google
Professional Experience
My first professional contact with the Internet took place in 1997, when I was working in a record label SP records (if you live outside Poland you probably never geard about it, but just believe me that this company has one of the most important Polish artist – Kazik Staszewski). Usually I was responsible for artists promotion at televisions and event (like meet&greet) organisation. One day I became a supervisor of the process of creating a new website. Obviously it wasn’t easy and without problems, when the webmaster at some point decided to disappear with the advance payment and leave the “open code” but not in the sense that we know
Finally however he came back broken and the website was created.
From SP Records I got to Internet Idea, which was then located in the middle (well, maybe in ¼) single-family house in Anin (Warsaw’s district). With the two company presidents we agreed that I will create a music vortal. On the Internet, of course. I made a draft on an A1 size sheet of paper. And so was Muzyka.info.pl created. (By the way – my paper draft became a pattern for nex websites. It looks that I was usability precursor, I should write a book
).
If I were to tell you how I imagine work in Silicon Valley before the Internet bubble bursting, I would have just told the whole story of the Internet Idea. It was a really fantastic time. Then when one well known journalist of Gazeta Wyborcza (in these times biggest Polish daily newspaper) wrote, that Muzyka.info.pl is the best music website in Poland (and it was not because I borrowed him my laptop at Węgorzewo Festival
), and then when Budka Suflera (very popular Polish band, then they were most popular with over one milliion selling record) had their first online chat with fans (which was also shown at Polsat TV), and then when Jethro Tull keyboardist Andrew Giddings placed on the band’s official website a link to our site with the anchor “The best Polish music website dedicated to various kinds of music.” Well, and then when as one of the first journalists in Poland I got from Zbyszek Hołdys his first solo album (Holdys.com), and I could write review before the premiere. Yes, those were beautiful times. Interesting might be also that the editor-in-chief of a sports website was Krzysztof Kotowski, currently valued writer.
In these times we made third Polish portal – YoYo.pl (Wirtualna Polska and Onet were before us).
Internet (and music) took me to the ITC Television Company, where I dealt with the online edition of 30ton List, List, List Chart (and where the truth about showbusiness told me Walter Chelstwowski, founder of the most famous Polish festival in Jarocin and the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity). It was here, along with Agnieszka (and Tommy D in the background
) from Metal Mind Productions we did first online Polish premiere of known band single (it was Acid Drinkers).
After the market recovered a little and world started to believe in Internet again, I started my work at Maruard Media (And in the meantime I worked in best advertising agency Testardo, and in Axel Springer Kontakt where I met a super-president Andreas) and I become responsible for Sports.pl.
From MPP I was “haunted” by Andreas and so I got to the publishing house Vogel Burda Communications, where I became Business Online Manager responsible for four websites Chip.pl, FVD.pl, CRN.pl and Enter.pl. It was a time comparable to that in Internet Idea years. Fantastic people and a lot of ideas (unfortunately also the unrealized, the implementation of which could significantly change the situation), as well as cooperation with the brilliant team of Country Managers on the project Download.Chip.eu. And an unforgettable visits into Munich, Prague and Budapest. It is the only one company I could come back and work again
In July 2007 the story had come full circle, and I again I got to the entrtainment business (and more specifically to the company Cenega Poland). It is true that this is not music but computer games (and consoles), but still it was cheerful. This company remain very important forever for me because is the place where I met my fiancee. (Finaly I know why I worked there for
)
Today I can not imagine another job than that of the Internet and mobile technologies. Hence, this blog and information contained in it (although there are a lot of matters other than the Internet). If anyone will use anything and it will help him very well. I write about what interests me and presented my point of view. (Maybe thanks to this blog few people change their minds about Poland and Polish people (stereotypes are the worst thing)). Regular or less regular basis, usually serious, but sometimes more at ease. So just as passionate for something, without which it is difficult to live today.
My hobbies: Internet and new technologies, creation and development of new projects, everything what starts with e-
like e-marketing, e-commerce, social media, and few things from offline like music (I prefer thrash and death metal, but I like jazz and blues and even good pop from time to time), football (my fav team is Legia Warszawa) and yachting.
