Don’t be evil. But…

Do not be evil is the motto of Google. But even the best idea / slogan / motto in the clash with cash (especially large cash) may have little chance of victory. The case is not new. One day, Google decided to enter the Chinese market. The most correct decision, because it is a huge market. The problem is that the Chinese government has its rules. Government officials put the matter clearly. If Google wants to enter the Chinese market and make money in this market, Google is welcome, but there’s one condition. Some of the content to be unavailable to Chinese users. The heads of Google thought counted (and that the mathematics are very much in common that they can count) and went out to them that it was better to bend a little than to lose that market. Slightly censored search results and created the Google China.
Of course, once there is a lot of votes against the company. On the one hand, don not be evil, on the other hand working with people who do not belong to the angels.
Recently a proposal was made to stop censoring the Internet by Google.
“Offer made by Doherty was due to a wave of criticism directed against Google after he disclosed that the company implemented in its Chinese site search mechanisms to automatically censor content (requested the Chinese authorities). In his opinion, such action is inconsistent with the philosophy of Google. Developed by the project provided that the corporation undertakes that it will never be introduced censorship mechanisms into their products, as well as disclose all such cases that occurred so far.”
In response to this call by David Drummond of Google explained that the introduction of such rules in practice means the immediate resignation of the activities on the Chinese market.
“Withdrawal from China, the removal of Google.cn service is not what you should do. And precisely for that would compel us to adopt this proposal “- explained Drummond.
Shareholders of Google can also count. The proposal was rejected, Google.cn is with censorship. And the Chinese still prefer their local search engine Baidu.com which is certainly a very heads Google’s hurt.
The proposal is one and not a visionary, because he can not be a visionary. The business is not very sentimental place. The major business is that place even less. It would be naive to expect from a global corporation that dispenses with a large fund just because it’s motto is do not do evil.
Finally, when it’s getting financial statements in Excel rows (although I do not think just in Google’s use of the program) enter the numbers, not words. Even as beautiful as “do not be evil”.
