Google Analytics illegal in Germany

analytics_logo Techcrunch reported that according to German officials involved in the protection of personal data, Google Analytics does not comply with the law of the country.

German officials want to punish the owners of websites that collect data through Google Analytics and obtain explicit consent from users.

As reported Zeit Online, the problem may have 13% of German web sites, including the leading German online media, organizations, politics and pharmaceutical companies. German officials are particularly sensitive to the point of sites that could collect sensitive data (such as insurance companies).

The representative of the Google Germany Per Meyerdierks, however, claims that everything is done in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, one German lawyer believes that the penalty could be up to $75,000.

Germans are very serious about the protection of personal data as well. The question, however, indicating that Google’s just as guilty makes sense? Data about you everyone gathers, no need to use Analytics (albeit a very good tool). And what in that case the servers’ logs?

The protection is most desirable, but most of all, each user should think about what is he doing in the Internet. Prior to the lack of imagination does not protect the most restrictive law.
