Black metal still alive

mortiis Mortiis is a specific person. His appearance (that of the promotional photos), rather scares. His music fascinates some other boring, and yet others preferred it when he played (short for short) in the Emperor. But already talking with him could be an absolute surprise.

Before Mortiis called me, I had some concerns about the course of the conversation. After reading the promotional materials, I was more prepared for a difficult conversation. But what, occupational risk. And here such a surprise. Mortiis has proved to be quite a nice man

- Somewhere on the Internet I found information that you play “Electronic folk”. Agree with this opinion?

- (Laughs) That’s good. You know, you can still call it that way. It is a further determination of the music I do perform. Although the term “Dark ambient industrial” is closer to me? (laughs)

- Well, once the matter is clear now.

- (Laughter) I’ve heard quite a lot of interesting expressions of my music.

- I believe. And what is more important: the music or lyrics?

- Definitely music. Lyrics are very important, but music is in the foreground.

-  So I ask about the lyrics, because I heard that you wrote a book.

- Yes, it’s true

- So tell me what it is about?

- The loss of faith, the Bible, the dimensions of pain. A quick answer is this book about me.

- If you’re already talking about books, in one interview you said that your work has been inspired by Tolkien. Still the case?

- At the beginning it was true. Tolkien inspired me very much. Now it looks a bit different. Most other composers inspire me. I like songs of Nine Inch Nails, Moby, or Ministry. Now, rather it goes this way.

- It is in that case what can we expect from the new album? What do you think is The Smell Of Rain?

- It’s a very personal album. In my opinion, is more rock structure than for example the Stargate. It is such a cold rock music, including women’s vocals.

- That’s it, who is the owner of this beautiful voice?

- It’s Sarah Jezebel Deva. I cooperated with her already. But not only her appeared on album. It’s quite a lot of people helped me.

- I can not refrain from ask you this question.

- (Laughs) I think I guess…

- I shall risk. Is black metal is important for you? Is this an absolute past?

- Black metal is very important to me. This is something that can never be forgotten. I did not even want to forget. Black metal will never die. There will always be, even if it is less popular than ever. As for my works of black metal, this is definitely a closed stage. I focus on entirely different matters. But I will never forget black metal.

- And what about your other projects. Vond, Fata Morgana?

- (Laughs) Dead.

- In an interview I read that they sleep.

- Yes, but I do not know if they ever wake up (laughs). Maybe someday, but I doubt

- By default, I ask my interlocutors about the Internet. This interview will appear in the online newspaper, therefore I would like to know what you think about this medium?

- First of all I have to admit that I am ignorant. Weakly to know the Internet, but I appreciate it. Primarily as a great source of information. And of course, promotion. Never before young bands do not have such opportunities as it is now. In total, in just a few minutes, you can present your creativity to the world.

- No no, you’re not so ignorant

- (Laughs) Well, maybe not quite that, I have some little knowledge about Internet. But in all a good thing and a cheap

- Maybe at your country. You might pass out if you saw my phone bills

- (Laughs) You’re joking

- We have most expensive access to the Internet in the world

- It’s not nice

- But you know, addiction is a habit

- I understand it very well

- At the end I would like to ask you a few words to Polish fans

- Sure. Many thanks to all who listen Mortiis. I hope to see you in Poland. Soon comes the new album (The Smell Of Rain) so the visit takes on greater meaning. I hope that we will have the opportunity to meet and listen to music together.

- Thanks for the interview

- Also, thank you and good luck
