Microblogging, SMS and MMS
Posted on November 26, 2009 by Marek
In the latest issue of Forbes was an article entitled “The Third Wave in the network.” The article is about Twitter and its clones.
In the article there was the statement that I can not agree and which I decided to address. The question is:
Microblogging will supplant SMS and MMS. Ideally replace, giving more opportunities of expression. They are also very easy to use – says Adam ZYGADLEWICZ, co-founder of Flaker.pl
If this statement is taken from a broader context, I must disagree, because:
* Microblogs and SMS and MMS are complementary tools
* Microblogs are easy to use for young people and heavy users, for elderly people who appear on the network through Nasza-Klasa (website like Classmates.com) is not easy to use
* I am a heavy user, but if I wanted to tell about something one person I will send a text message, even when at home and having access to the Internet. Being away from home, I am not going to get logged into the Internet on a mobile phone to send a message to one person using microblogging. I’ll do it much faster using SMS
* SMS allows me to quickly put the information on my microblogging website (faster than if I had to log on to) when I do not have access to a computer. And with an application that displays the text of my microblog located at blog I can very quickly tell about something to big group of people (remember the plane crash on the Hudson River?)
I am still amazed ZYGADLEWICZ’’s statement, because it’s a little bit as if to say that cars will supplant motorcycles
