If after watching “Cunning Stunts” you will find that something you are missing here, namely that you are eternally unhappy and there is no such thing in the world, which you could fully enjoy.
Generally “Cunning Stuns” is a recording of Metallica show. Actually two concerts, held in Fort Worth (Tarrant County Convention Center) in Texas, 9th and 10th May 1997.
The concert is on two DVDs and covers exactly the entire program of the event along with the encores. Three songs (“Ain’t my bitch“, “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “Wherever I May Roam“) can be viewed from the perspective of 5 cameras. You decide if watching the entire band or just one of the four musicians. Particularly interesting Lars Ulrich face looks.
But the concert it’s not everything. Thanks to additional material you can see for yourself how much work the final effect of the finished stage with lighting, sound system, special effects costs.
The first disc contains the bonus section with:
1. Back Stage Pre-Show - Metallica beforethe show. The camera looks into the wardrobe, where interesting things happening.
2. Fans – fans talk about their idols and expectations related to the concert. For some of them it is the first Metallica concert, which they will see.
3. Dan Braun And Production – Dan Braun (Production Manager) and Zach Harmon (bass tech) talk about the whole production. Hence, you will learn how much time is needed for building thestage, etc..
4. JB – The Lights – Mysterious JB (Lightning Designer), who wants to remain anonymous and Ben Richards (Color Studio Programmer) tell about different elements of production and stage lighting.
5. New Stage – musicians talk about stage, compare it with the famous Snakepit (Black Album promotional tour).
Second disc bonus section includes:
1. Interacting With The Fans – musicians talk about what happens when, during a concert they come face to face with the fans.
2. Rob & Joe – a funny, illustrated with animated inserts, the story of two carpenters, who cares about all the wood (and not only) elements of the stage
3. Kirk And Guitars – Justin Crew (guitar technican) talks about Kirk Hammett guitars. The artist uses few guitars during the show. Justin says when these instruments appear on stage.
4. Big Mick – an audio engineer reveals a few secrets related to his work. With his skills, sliders to move on console themselves ..
5. Final Destruction – at the end of the show, four towers located on the outskirts of the stage collapse. It looks quite real, and how it is actually responsible person tell.
6. Flaming Dude – at the time burning man appears on the stage. He is John Arrowsmith, who tells how to do it during each concert, and do not injure yourself. The musicians tell their impressions. Correct annotation: Don’t try this at home, kids!
7. Bob Bender – during a concert in Spodek (Katowice, Poland) I had the opportunity to meet this man. This is the head of security, as big as Mount Everest, very firm, yet very pleasant and cheerful. Bob talks about what to do to everyone felt safe. Metallica personal Terminator.
8. Photo Gallery – Over 1000 images from 100 cities, which were on the route of the Metallica.
Beside these attractions, you can decide the type of audio (stereo or Dolby Digital)and apperance of subtitles.
Generally I recommend this DVD to Metallica fans, and all those who want to find out how looks the professional use of this format.
